My name is Tracy A. Snethen and I am the founder of Nugget Hunters of America.

Our goal is to bring you helpful information about Gold Prospecting and Treasure Hunting, so that you can get the most out of this great hobby. We will explore different areas for you to go, field test existing tools & equipment, and test out the new ones hitting the market. Hopefully, we can provide helpful information for you to make your Gold Prospecting and Treasure Hunting experiences memorable ones.

I come from a rich prospecting history with my father and uncles having enjoyed this great hobby for more than 25 years and still do today. My love for the outdoors stems back to my childhood, where we would explore the vastness of the Nation’s National Parks and the old deserted mining camps throughout Nevada.

I caught the interest and intrigue of prospecting / mining on my first visit to Virginia City, Nevada back in the 60′s when I was only 7 or 8 years old. It was a fascinating place that took you back to the old West. I remember walking along the wooden plank sidewalks, visiting the Bucket of Blood Saloon, walking through the Boot Hill Cemetery, and taking the tour into the Comstock mine. That is where I saw my first chunk of gold in the roof of this hard rock mine. Though the Comstock Lode made it’s fortune in Silver, Gold is where it started.

A lot has changed in the world since the 1960′s, but the excitement of finding a vein of gold running through a chunk of quartz or seeing the flakes show up in your pan after a good day of digging are still the same… it makes my heart race every time.

This is a great hobby and one that stems back to the early times of our great Nation. The difference between prospecting back in the 1800′s and now are all of the new technologies and conveniences that are available to the modern prospector… or like we like to call them… The 21st Century Prospector.
